Week Four Discussion Questions

❖ Do you think human recourses (HR) policies should govern ethical and legal issues? Why or Why not? How might HR policies govern unethical or unlawful behavior? Do we need laws that enforce ethical codes? How might a situation in business be legal but unethical? How might a situation be ethical but illegal? Share an example from your own experience of HR policies that address or encourage ethical practices.

Human resources (HR) are aware of ethical and legal ramifications and consequences for certain behaviors or actions. Having policies in writing for employees, make apparent the ethical expectations of the organization. I believe that it is necessary to have laws that back ethical codes because it shows societies of control. Unlawful behavior in business, which does law, prohibit, it is illegal or criminal. However, behavior breaks the clearly set down rules or laws that govern business.

❖ What is your definition of a stakeholder? Which of the different stakeholder groups’ interests are the most important, and why? What ethical responsibilities does an organization have to different stakeholder groups? How might ignoring the needs of one stakeholder in favor of another stakeholder affect the organization? Provide an example.

My definition of stakeholder is a person or group of an organization that has direct or indirect stake within the organization it can affect or be affected by the company’s actions, objectives, and policies. Some of the key stakeholders in a business organization involves creditors, customers, directors, employees, government such it agencies, owners (stakeholders), suppliers, unions, and the community from which the business draws its resources.
