Kudler Fine Foods was established in 1998. Kathy a woman that had a passion for the gourmet foods decided to fulfilled her vision establishing her own gourmet food store because in the area that she live did not have this kind of specialty grocery store. Since the opening of the first store in the La Jolla, Kudler has opened two more stores; Del Mar in 2000 and Encinitas in 2003. The many different departments include fresh bakery and pastries, produce, meat and seafood, condiments and packaged food cheese and specialty dairy products (Kudler Fine Foods, 2011). As a company Kudler have some accounting information systems needs such as; payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, capital assets, inventory, purchasing, general ledger, point of service transactions, bank reconciliation and security. Although, Kudler has implemented a comprehensive Retail Enterprise Management System (REMS) this current system does not meet the needs of the business as the computer system is outdated (Kudler Fine Foods, 2011). With the complexity of such a department, systems, resources and applications for this department should be one of the most precise and advanced systems in a business.

Kudler strength in the existing information system is the modules that are installed reduce the manual data entry eliminating errors to the information and allowing sharing information by the point of sales machines (Kudler Fine Food, 2011). With the currently POS module when a customer transaction take a place this is automatically transmitted to the general ledger, electronic payment clearing house and the purchasing function (Kudler Fine Food, 2011). The data transmitted to the general ledger automatically, debits cash and credit sales, calculates the cost of goods sold, calculates the merchandise inventory based of FIFO, debits costs of goods sold and credits merchandise inventory and reports the net profit per sale daily (Kudler Fine Food, 2011).
