“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens (Knowledgeable Quotes, 2009).” This quote by Carl Jung says a lot about knowledge, information and how we use it in our corporations. It is very good advice, and should be a model or rather a mission statement for a company. “Knowing is not enough; we must apply (Knowledgeable Quotes, 2009)!” This quote says many things as well. It is simple, yet has a deep message inside. I will draw upon these quotes to explain how important Organizational information and knowledge is and what affect they have on Knowledge Management.

We must first start with a few definitions to get a background on what we are discussing.

Business Dictionary defines Organizational Learning as; Organization-wide continuous process that enhances its collective ability to accept, make sense of, and respond to internal and external change. Organizational learning and is more than the sum of the information held by employees. It requires systematic integration and collective interpretation of new knowledge that leads to collective action and involves risk taking as experimentation (BusinessDictionary.com, 2009). What does this mean to us? There are a few terms that we must understand when we talk about Organizational Learning. The first is adaptive learning, which simply is changes that have been made in reaction to the changed environmental conditions. This is learning based on what has happened in the past, both good and bad and how we as a company or employees learn form that and make adjustments.

The other form of learning is Proactive Learning, which are organizational changes that have been made on a more willful basis. It goes beyond simple reacting to the environmental changes. It is looking ahead at what can be done...
