Senior vice president of Seatcor Manufacturing Company has a subordinate vice president and general manager of the desk assembly plant named Joe Gibbons. Joe is known for hiring minimum competent employees but is a long-standing personal friend with the senior vice president who respects him and his judgment. Joe has been with the company for 38 years and is expected to retire within the next 2 years. Joe Gibbons is in the process of completing a five-year plan for his plant that will serve as the basis for several major plant reinvestment and reorganization decisions that would be proposed to senior management.

Charles Steward was hired as Joe’s second in command making him assistant vice president. Even though Joe is vice president and general manager over the desk assembly plant, the senior vice president insisted Steward’s hiring. While having lunch with the senior vice president, Charles raised a concern that he has not been included in Joe Gibbons five year plan for the plant and believe that he should be included in all planning stages regarding the plan.

The senior vice president is faced with having to come up with a resolution between Joe and Charles. Charles’s lack of involvement in the planning is causing feud with Joe. Throughout this paper, Team A will Analyze possible intervention strategies; negotiation, mediation, arbitration, litigation and hybrids. The team will apply what is believed to be the best strategy and explain how it will resolve the conflict. A contingency plan will also be set in place in the event the strategy plan is not successful.

Conclusion

Taking into consideration the opinions of Joe and Charles, the bottom line is what is best for Seatcor Manufacturing Company. After Joe retires in two years, the company will still be in operation thus needing someone to handle affairs thereafter. The strategy approach of a...
