Friendship

How can people define friends? How can one put it into categories and what would those categories be? After asking five people by the name of Evan, Bob, Lorrie, Sarah, and Kris to define friends into categories they all came up with similar things. Evan is a bar supervisor for Salud at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa. Sarah works with Evan in Salud. Bob is a bellman at the same resort. Lorrie is a psychologist. Kris is Tom’s, the authors, Brother. All five of these interviewees put the categories in the order from closest to least close friends. The categories start with best friends then followed by close friends, friends, acquaintances, and ends with people one knows.

According to the interviews the strongest category is best friends. A “Best Friend” to Even is defined to be a domestic partner. A domestic Partner is a Wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, or a significant other as Evan explained what a domestic partner is.

When asking Bob what a best friend was he replied, “A best friend is someone that can be shared one’s deepest secrets with.”

In the view of Lorrie a best friend is someone that can be relied on and be there for one another in all situations. Kris defined a best friend as someone that one would consider family even if they are not blood related. A best friend is someone that one can trust with one’s life according to Sarah.

The next category off their list is “Close Friends.” Close friends are people that one can vent too according to Lorrie.

After asking Kris what he defined as a close friend he responded, “A close friend is someone that one can share secrets with but not one’s deepest personal secrets that one would tell one’s best friends.”

Bob responded by saying that a close friend is someone that can be trusted with any situation but will not take a shot for one like a best friend would. Bob then elaborated by saying that in a life and death situation a close friend...
