Many people believe the water being distributed to their homes is the cleanest and purest that is possible. We trust the water companies to provide us with safe drinking water . But in Walkerton, Ontario, Canada that wasn’t the case. The Walkerton Public Utilities was providing the public with water that was being contaminated by a farm, whose watershed was in contact with one of the operating wells. The utilities company knew about the contamination, but still allowed the water to be distributed to the public. This is why it is so important to have a code of ethics when providing a public service, such as to provide safe and reliable water and waste water services to our community in an economical, efficient and responsible manner.
