Originally founded to create personal computers, Apple Inc. manufactures and sells many of the worlds leading brands in personal computers, digital music players, mobile phones, and portal or pad computers. Apple Inc. has been through many changes in the last three decades. They have been through many leaders and several different strategies. They operated against great competition and shifting marketplaces sometimes, losing larges amounts of money. This all changed in the last decade when one of the original founding members, Steve Jobs, became CEO of Apple Inc. for the second time and implemented a new strategy to move Apple Inc. into the 21st century. Since Job’s return Apple Inc. has seen phenomenal growth and innovation under his Strategic Management and leadership.

Strategic management is high-level business planning conducted by a company’s leaders or senior management. This planning process produces a strategy for the business to determine what and how a business is going to meet and achieve its desired results and objectives. (AllBusiness, 2011) During this process, the leaders review the organization and environment it operates. By doing this they can determine if the two fit together and have the ability to be successful in carrying out the corporate strategy once it is established. In September 2007 Steve Jobs returned to the CEO position of Apple Inc. He quickly changed Apple Inc.’s strategic management and started Apple Inc. on the path to producing a wide variety of new products with unbelievable sales.

A strategy is normally a high level or long-term view of the company. This may mean it a multiyear view. It keeps the company’s leaders looking forward and is reviewed yearly to make sure large impactful changes have not happened to the environment the strategy was developed for.
