Today's workplace is rapidly becoming a vast business environment expanding to include
various geographic locations and span numerous cultures. As the cultures span it has become
more difficult to understand and effectively communicate with individuals in the workplace
who speak a different language or who rely on different means to reach a common goal.
Today's businesses are growing rapidly every year. The reason for this growth is the vast growth
of population in America. People from all over the world are coming to America to make this
their home.
Because this country is so diverse, there has always been the importance of the job
community changes with the times. This is great for the corporate community however,
it is also difficult at times. The issues that occur with having a multi-culture workplace are the
way other cultures communicate and build effective business relationship. Regardless of
the company that one decides to become a part of he or she is likely to interact with people who
are from numerous national, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. Communicating across
language and cultural barriers can be a challenge.
It has become more common in one’s own country to encounter people from a multitude of
backgrounds in the workplace. The growth of interdependence of people and cultures in the
global society of the 21st century has forced us to pay even more attention to communication
issues within the workplace. In order to live and function in a multicultural environment as
effectively and meaningfully as possible, people must be competent in communication, which
includes verbal and nonverbal communication....
