Does politics have an effect on sports? Well, we all know politics affects everyone and everything people do, whether we like it or not. And because sport’s is a people profession we could assume there is a connection between the two. Just the word politics makes some people cringe, because the very profession lacks integrity and often undermines the values and interests of people in general. Say one thing and do another. People don’t know who to trust or what to believe anymore with regards to politics. The problem of course is when a political agenda gets in the way of what is best for business and the individual citizens of the nation. Political mandates, regulations and rhetoric can easily separate people. If politics sways the vote one way, then the other side may suffer a loss. Any logical person could see that volume matters. The more customers a business gets, the greater the tendency for that business to grow. As a business, you never want to divide people, but rather unite them on the need for your service or product. The more people that like what you do, the more your business will thrive. Sport’s is a people business, and the decisions our elected officials make in Government, directly affects the economics, policy, and public opinion in sports.

Economics drives our ability to do almost anything. Businesses and individuals alike depend on a strong economy. Every time a new law or regulation is passed, its ramifications could be huge. Take for example, the recent political maneuver where Government encouraged state officials and individuals to boycott Arizona; this will have a profound impact on Arizona. Arizona, had decided to exercise its constitutional rights to protect its borders, but the people running the Federal Government didn’t like that.
