In Shakespeare’s time, the man is the leader of the family, women is always the weaker. “Men were considered to be the leaders and women their inferiors. It was believed that women always needed someone to look after them.” Women at that time didn’t have any social status. They can’t choose their future by themselves. But, Queen Gertrude is a very special woman. She have the courage to married others after her husband’s death. At that society, people will never allow this kinds of thing happened. But, she did it. She only want a man that can protect her, a man that she really loves, a man is not dead. In the old China, a woman is not allows to married a man again, no matter her husband is die. If a woman did it, the villagers will throw both of them to the river and drown. And now, people’s minds are changing. Woman now is encouraged to find their true love.

In conclusion, Queen Gertrude is a fiend because she didn’t spend enough time with her son. But she still is a victim. At the end of the story, She tried to fix the relationship with Hamlet; She lost her life to save Hamlet. And she is only a woman that needs a man to love her, to protect her. So. She is both fiend and victim.

In my opinion, Queen Gertrude is a victim. She is a loving mother who always wants to protect her son. She is only a woman and, is oppressed by the society. At the end of the play she realizes that she was wrong in her judgment of Claudius; she needs to make up for her mistakes. However, Queen Gertrude died at the end of the play. It was not a fair punishment for her. She was simply an innocent victim.
