Affecting Change

Revolutionizing management is integral to an assisted living facility in a society that is ever changing. Leaders can learn to change behavior and to implement changes more effectively. Health care administrators must remain aware of all new regulations, and be able to inform employees whenever necessary. Assisted living has been fast growing, and will continue to grow as the percentage of citizens aged sixty-five grows twenty percent by 2030 (McGurk, 2000). This upcoming need has increased the demand for jobs in this area. This paper will explain the current methods of control, and the established departmental cultures. The recommended strategy for restructuring and improving the culture, as well as empowering employees, will be identified. The most valuable management practices will be explained, as well as the reasons for its value. Lastly, the effects of the new size and structure of this department on the organization, groups, teams, individuals, and the future of the organization will be identified.

The newer, organic types of organizations, such as self-managed teams, network organizations, and self-organizing organization are more responsive and more capable of adapting to the rapidly changing world of today (McNamara, 2009). These organizations forms are also more effective than hierarchical forms in relation to the empowerment of employees. McNamara states that the US Bureau of Labor anticipates that direct care jobs in assisted living will be of the top ten careers with the largest growth rates in the next decade. Currently, the turnover rates of assisted living facilities are so high that it is difficult to hire new workers quickly enough to replace the old.
