Unit 10 – Writing Assignment – Shadowing
Job shadowing is an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a position that you would like to hold one day. Job shadowing not only is beneficial to the employee seeking the position of their dream job, it is also beneficial to a future employer. “The trainee and the employer would have a chance to become comfortable with each other while allowing the trainee to thoroughly learn the job” (Monroe, H. 2010). Within this paper I will try to adequately describe what I might learn from job shadowing and the specific steps that are needed to find and shadow a mentor. I will also mention a company that I hope to find a job with when I come to the point in my education that I feel comfortable in searching for a position. I will discuss what skills I feel I need to develop before finding a mentor and being able to have a productive mentor/mentee relationship. Finally I will try to explain what the impact of mentoring has on my professional, educational and personal development.
What I feel, I might learn from shadowing a mentor of a, Healthcare manager at a Hospice Agency in Austin Texas, is to learn the day to day job duties. What it really is like to be a healthcare manager at a Hospice Agency. I have always loved working in the healthcare field and I feel that I would be best at working in a Hospice environment. I would hopefully learn how to direct and supervise personnel. I would learn more about the care of the patients, families and the caregivers that the agency is responsible for taking care of and I would learn exactly what services that the agency provides. I would learn the laws of the state and government concerning Hospice care. I am sure there are many more things that I could and should learn while shadowing a mentor but these are just a few of the things that come to mind when I think about this...
