Kudler's Inventory Data Table Analysis

The Kulder Fine Foods sells perishable products hence they keep inventory as just-in –inventory. Due to this reason the management has to be always ready to make quick decisions and reorder if the inventory is running low. The company uses Microsoft Access to store its database. This brief will evaluate the company’s inventory database in terms of design, relationship with the entity and recommend improvements in order to enhance the management decision making.

Evaluating Design Elements of Data Tables from an Accounting Perspective

We are evaluating the design elements from accounting perspective the data based on the fact that it should be recorded in a way that the end user can efficiently access information to determine the inventory that is currently available. It will help the user to reorder inventory when it is running low or before the inventory runs out. The current design we see that the financial data is organized in the order of department, GL code or the financial code, items and finally the amount. By arranging the database in the above mentioned order, the information and visual presentation is increased for the financial data. At a glance, the user can see items belong to one particular department and the amount of the item purchased.

Entity Relationship Diagram of the Inventory Database Table

The entity relationship diagram (Exhibit A) shows how the user views the information. The diagram includes entities and the relationship between the business entities. The diagram uses rectangle, diamond and oval symbols to show entities, relationship description and description of the entity. Connecting line represents the relationship.
