Abstract

"Decision in Paradise" is an exceptional assignment provided by University of Phoenix that should help students master their decision-making skills. As Nik, students at University of Phoenix will identify the problems and any factors related to them in order to provide a logical recommendation to Nik's employer. Nik's problem formulation technique should also include a stakeholder analysis to capture their needs and expectations as it is quite unlikely for any business to succeed without understanding stakeholders’ expectations.

Nik’s initial euphoric reaction to flying overseas to a Paradise made of white beaches, tropical breeze, and swaying palm trees changed once he landed in Kava. Indeed, his expectations did not match with what the real scenario was. Nik’s goal was to gather valuable information that would allow upper management to decide if they should expand Menlo Worldwide Logistics business in Kava. Nik’s first step was to define Menlo Worldwide Logistics mission statement in order to ensure that all team members would stay focused in the same direction. Nik also had to define the issues that appeared in his business scenario and the forces that were involved in formulation of the problem. Further, he had to describe the organizational and environmental obstacles in a way that would consider the stakeholders affected by decisions. Finally, Nik had to apply critical thinking in his decision-making process when he presents his recommendation to Menlo Worldwide Logistics upper management.
