To Drill or Not to Drill

I agree with the President we should come up with ways to free ourselves from the dependency on foreign oil, and a solution needs to be found quickly. We are just too dependent on oil from other countries, we have to explore for oil in the United States in every area that we can so our nation can get back on its feet. Drilling for oil is simply not good for the environment and it displaces wildlife by destroying their habitats. We are so dependent on foreign oil that it has to be imported from other countries. We are paying millions of dollars to other country’s that should be going back into our own economy. One thing to remember is that when we have strife with these countries as we usually do, this drives the price of oil up which drives the gas prices up, and yet we are trying to still make friends with them, because we want their oil, sort of a silly concept. Our nation is in trouble and this should be about more than just the profits that companies are making, and being such a big business concept. I understand that developing a greener lifestyle for some people would be an adjustment, but I feel that it is needed, just taking small steps will be a big help.

There are key habits that hindering thinking when looking at the opposing view and defending your own view which include the fact that you do not look at the other side’s perspective to see if it has any valid points to the argument. I usually tend to get very defense and think that my way is the only way, without thinking of how my viewpoint may affect other people and their own situations. I have often used my own personal experiences to judge a situation and that is not always a fair thing do. Some people are resistant to change, and just reject new ideas and concepts. I need to make that I am knowledgeable and have the most current information to date when going in to debate any subject
