Should Mixed Martial Arts be Banned?

Mixed martial arts is one of the most vicious and frowned upon sports in the world. Many people love as well as hate this extremely fast rising sport from coast to coast and across many continents. With all the protests from critics and media it brings to question, should mixed martial arts be banned? MMA is one of the most vigorous and demanding sports of all time, although there are very few serious injuries. With all the media, talent, and popularity MMA is bringing into existence without serious consequences, should it really be banned? Mixed martial arts should not be banned because it shows the world competition between the greatest athletes, it has increasing popularity, and it helps teach young adults self-defense.

Mixed martial arts is a physically and mentally demanding sport created for only the strongest of competitors. MMA features the best athletes in the world and showcases some of the best competition. Mixed martial artists are some of the greatest athletes of all time because they compete in such a high intensity sport. The rounds are three five-minute rounds and include a mixture of boxing, wrestling, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, and other special fighting arts. Each of the fighting styles takes many years to master and to fully comprehend. Each fighter’s body is beaten and brutalized during the fifteen minutes of a fight. Fighters that step in the octagon suffer from the kicks of Bas Rotten, equivalent to the impact of a 35 mph car crash, as tested by Fight Science (M&C Smallscreen pg. 5).
