Description of Organization

Jackson and Prince LLP is a national law firm with approximately 500 lawyers and 250 professional support staff. Founded in 1934 and headquartered in Chicago, the firm has 24 offices in 12 states. They are a full service practice with emphasis in entertainment law. The firm has a good diversity make-up and believes in and values long term relationships; it shows with the tenure of their attorneys and staff, with the average year of employment to be ten years or more. With the recent economic situation, the firm has had to cut back, which have included some layoffs to the administrative staff. In fact, Jackson has had to close two offices in Illinois and some of the firm’s enhancement programs have been cut. Employee recognition has been high with the recent announcement of staff graduations, attorney appointments to recent chairs for various boards in the state and our firm placing third in the corporate band competition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Hollywood, CA. Even through there is not a high turnover, the morale of the employees is not very high and from some of the complaints I have heard, Jackson used to be a great place to work.

According to my OA paper, Jackson strongest culture norm is perfectionist, with achievement and self-actualizing coming in second. Most of the employees in the firm seem to conform to this way of thinking, but there are others who seek to find better ways of enhancing themselves within the company structure.

The focus of my OA paper has been on the Accounts Receivable Department with emphasis on the Collection-Billing Department of the firm. I started working for Jackson in November of 2008 as an E-I (Electronic Invoicing) Coordinator in the Collection Department of the Accounts Receivable Department.
