When researching drilling and foreign dependency on oil I have
discovered this is something I care strongly about. I do not want to have our
country dependant upon oil from other countries. If we as a country end our
dependence on foreign oil, the money would go to American businesses and not
to foreign companies. With the money we would be creating careers, money to
pay salaries, and buy mostly domestic goods. According to USA Today “Had the
US been energy independent, the cash flow that helped create the housing crisis
would not have occurred and, consequently there never would have been a crisis
to begin with. We as a country are spending $1 billion a day overseas in foreign
oil. These are funds our country could really use at home.
The reliance we have on these countries for their oil has caused them to
be placed on the State Department’s Travel Warning List. There are ten
countries on this list. The countries are: Algeria, Chad, Columbia, Democratic
Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and
Syria. These countries are said to be dangerous and unstable.
When I look at the opposing view I do understand where the people on the
opposite side are coming from. However, at the same time I do understand how
important it is to create jobs and revenue within our own country. There are many
people today without any jobs. By bringing oil to our own country we could
employ many of those who are unemployed now. Sure making more green
energy will cost an extreme amount of money, but it will pay off in the end. We
will have preserved the earth and created jobs as well as revenue. None of this

can be done if we have foreign oil dependency.
