New Process Design

A new process design is “the activity of determining the workflow, equipment needs, and implementation requirements for a particular process. Process design typically uses a number of tools including flowcharting, process simulation software, and scale models” (Shih-Wen Hsiao, 2010, pg. 1). In the current setting of Riordan Manufacturing China facility, their main operational goal is production efficiency. The production forecast has been the front runner for financial operational efficiencies and customer service operating performances. However, there has still been a delay in shipping. The percentage for shipping is at a 93%, which could use a vast improvement. With the implementation of a new process design, Riordan will be able to diffuse responsibility by utilizing multiple manufacturers, in addition to their current operational function. This will allow for more feasibility and keep them abreast with the competitiveness, and minimize the potential risk of not meeting the customer’s needs for cycle time. Additionally, Riordan should implement the MRP system for the use of their inventory. This will help to make sure materials are ready and available for delivery. The MRP system could help assist Riordan with in-house inventory storage by keeping the lowest cost of inventory and assist with the purchasing activities. This will help balance the increase in inventory cost, with the extra supplies in storage, while “ensuring that they are able to meet current and future customers demands, all at the lowest possible cost” (Wikipedia.org).Overall , this new process design will influence the need to maintain structure and keep a flexible approach to the way work is done.
