A Fair Tax System for a Better Society

It is no doubt that the general goal of a government of the people and by the people must set its goal to work for the people, that is to maximize the well-being of society as Abraham Lincoln pointed out in his famous Gettysburg address. To maximize the well-being of society, or to make a better society in which its members live happier than today, the government must take a role of developing and improving the social infrastructure, such as, transportation, education, health care, community development, employment and social welfare systems. With the well-established social infrastructure, people are able to get quality care and treatment they need. Among the social infrastructure elements, the health and education systems are required to be on top of the list since the government should consider first the basic needs of the people to provide them healthy and educated lives with equal opportunity. It is a generally accepted idea that improvements in educational attainment and the health care system would have great impacts on other social infrastructure elements.

Since health is one of the most important issues in people lives and the factor most closely related to their overall happiness, the development of the system of good quality is critical for the society’s welfare. In addition, the degree of accessibility to health infra-structure is an important indicator of social development. Thus the government should try to adopt an universal health coverage to cover all citizens’ health issues. People have rights to get equal opportunity for using the health care system without being concerned money they have to pay. One of the government’s roles for society is to improve people’s welfare; the system’s objective should be to reduce the number of uninsured persons while minimizing financial barriers.
