Some risk factors that can be controlled to prevent serious illness are obesity, diet, exercise, sleep habits, and smoking. These things weigh heavily on your body and, if not managed properly, will have a negative effect and lead to serious health problems over time.

Hypertension is word use to describe high blood pressure. Hypertension is dangerous because if not treated properly can lead to artery damage and narrowing, heart attack, stroke, aneurysm, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and kidney failure. Ways to prevent hypertension are monitoring your diet (evaluate your salt intake), monitoring your weight, get blood pressure tests done regularly, get urinalysis tests, and having a doctor perform an ultrasound of your kidneys.

The most common types of cancer are lung, breast, colon, prostate, thyroid, kidney, skin, ovarian, cervical, rectal and pancreatic. According to the book, “many specific causes of cancer are well documented, the most important of which are smoking, obesity, and a few viruses. However, wide global variations in common cancers, such as those of the breast, prostate, colon, and rectum, remain unexplained. Most research supports the idea that cancer is caused by environmental factors (such as chemicals, radiation, viruses, and certain medical treatments), lifestyle factors (such as poor diet, inactivity, obesity, and alcohol consumption), and internal factors (such as hormones, immune conditions, and inherited mutations). Causal factors may act together or in sequence to promote cancer development.” Preventive treatments of some cancers such as prostate include watching your diet by eating fruits and vegetables; particularly those containing lycopene, as well as a substantial amount of vitamin E. Treatment of cancer include radiation (use of radiation to kill cancerous cells) and chemotherapy (use of medication to kill cancerous cells).
