Being open to criticism can help solve problems in your daily life because it can show you a balanced and realistic version of yourself and teach you which areas you need to improve in, helping you to increase your self-esteem. You can judge how you are doing in school, or at an activity, or at work, etc… based on criticism. Criticism can be very good when it is constructive criticism, aimed at making you a better person by pointing out any mistakes so that you can repair them. The constructive criticisms can be about you personally, but are usually about something that you did or that you were a part of, such as when you finish a sporting event which you lost. During the next practice the coach will tell you which things you did wrong so that you can work on them during the practice and not make that mistake again during the next game or tournament.
