The grape/wine industry primarily grows grapes and manufacture wine using the produced grapes. Over the past 1/4 century, Canadian vintners have increased its production and its quality. Even though Canadian wine industry is not a global producer, it is well-recognized in international wine industry. Additionally, Canada is a world-leader in the production of ice-wine with its high quality and consistency of producing ice-wine. However, the despite the fact that Canadian wine industry is highly evaluated at a global level, it faces number of challenges which threatens the life of grape/wine industry.

The main challenge that grape/wine industry faces is the limited production and lack of supply. As the production level decreases, number of items exported also decreases which eventually reduce the number of trades that grape/wine industry performs at an international level. As one of the top exporter country in grape/wine industry, this is severe problem, since it makes the Canadian grape/wine companies to fall behind the competition. Currently, there is a rapid global competition from Southeast Asia, Chile, Argentina, South Africa & Australia in an international grape/wine market. These competition farms are very large and well supported from governments. From the support of government, the costs of producing grapes and wines and price of items are lower in such countries. Not only competing countries are supported by their governments, but firms in such countries are also well organized and have developed strong marketing plans to promote their production world-wide. Another challenge that Canadian grape/wine industry is struggling is about the costs of production. Canadian grape/wine industry is facing higher labour and production costs.
