Introduction

Over the past twenty years there has been a call for vital research dealing with the potential impact of educational technology in schools. In 2000 the National Educational Technology Plan was enacted to call attention to the need for a long term agenda for the use of and effectiveness of technology in education. Technology can offer many benefits to the education system, both in the private and public sector. However, in order for the advancements in technology to be efficient and effective a research study needed to be performed.

Business Problems Under Investigation

The main business problem that was being investigated and needed to be answered was what research would benefit both educators and students and what the important factors were. There needed to be a clear and concise timeline as well as directed efforts towards a mutual goal. Getting opinions and professional views towards this goal was fundamental to overall accomplishment. To achieve this goal, many educators would have to be brought together on where to start and when to implement the business proposition.

Data Collection Method Used

The date collection method used by the panel members during this study was the exploratory method. The primary purpose of the exploratory method is to gain a deeper understanding of something that is not necessarily known. This method is normally far more flexible than other research methods; however caution should be used when drawing conclusions because the data may not be completely accurate.

Conclusion of Results

The researchers concluded that the need for continued research in determining the effects of technology on teaching and learning are well founded. There top areas of concern within the panel were. Learning, teachers, models/strategies, assessment, current issues, schools, web-based environments, and external influences ranked in that order as well.
