Human Cloning Should be Illegal

For several years many Americans have been mesmerized with the possibility of creating a human life form without going through the natural way of conceiving life, and believes that cloning should be legal. While on the other hand there are many others who strongly disagree with the idea of human cloning and feel cloning should be illegal because it is unethical. Cloning is defined as a cell, cell product, or organism that is genetically identical to the unit or individual from which it was derived. Cloning is said by many people as being immorally wrong, but to others it is away to save a persons life. Cloning can be beneficial but not necessarily needed as a way to create human life. So cloning of humans should be illegal.

Visualize living in a world where everyone looked the same. With all the advances in science today and even the cloning of a sheep, this could possibly be the new miracle way to make a baby, animal, or even bring a person back from the dead. We are coming into an age where scientists have started cloning non-human mammals. Soon they will want to start cloning humans. Since human cloning is unsafe, unethical, and too costly for reproductive purposes, it should be illegal.

Human cloning is very risky. Center for Genetics and Society says “At least 95% of mammalian cloning experiments have resulted in failures in the form of miscarriages, stillbirths, and life-threatening anomalies; some experts believe no clones are fully healthy.” [ (Center for Genetics and Society, 2006) ] Cloning human beings runs a risk of having severe genetic abnormalities. Children cloned from adult DNA would already have old genes. These children would have to deal with the problem of developing and growing old too fast. This would include having arthritis, their appearance, and even the function of their organ.
