Write two paragraphs, with a total minimum word count of 350 words, explaining what your point of view will be and what you plan to accomplish in your paper.

The topic I chose to write about from appendix B is “In the United States, we do not need to plan for retirement. Social Security will cover our needs when we are retired.” My opinion on this subject is the opposing side. In my persuasive essay I will convince my readers why my point of view should be considered valid, which is “In the United State, we need to have a retirement plan that includes Social Security only as a supplement to our retirement income.” Social Security in the United States is a program that acts as a safety net for all citizens. Whether they are entitled to benefits depends on if their circumstances satisfy the system's requirements. Today, more than 51 million Americans collect some kind of Social Security benefit. Social Security is defined as a system that during a person’s time of employment, they pay into the Social Security system. After they have paid into the system - when they retire or become disabled they can receive monthly benefits. The way the system cycle works is the money that a worker pays into Social Security today pays those who are currently retired and receiving benefits. This continuous cycle is the way that the United States citizens can be assured that there will be some form of Social Security available when they retire. Even thought, today the work force has decreased, where there used to be 10 jobs where the employees paid into Social Security for every 10 retired people claiming their Social Security benefits. Today, we have 7 jobs where the employees pay into Social Security for every 10 retired people claiming their Social Security benefits. With the cost of living...
