There are some bosses that tell their employees what needs to be done and how it needs to be done, but will not take the time to listen to their employees input. A poor communicator is not a good leader; it is hard to lead people if you can not communicate with them. “Research indicates that poor communication is probably the most frequently cited source of interpersonal conflict (Robbins & Judge, 2007)”. Being the boss comes with a lot of responsibility and some times they are busy in meetings, busy with the day to day management responsibility and this can cause them to not have the time to communicate as effectively as they should.
Communication controls behavior, provides motivation, streams information, and is way to show emotions. The reinforcement theory plays a part in each of these functions, so it is to see the relationship between communication and the reinforcement theory. “No one of these four functions should be seen as being more important than the others (Robbins & Judge, 2007)”. For a team to function effectively there has to be some sort of control over the team, they have to be motivated, be informed, have a means for emotional expression (Robbins & Judge, 2007).
Mr. Caruso seems to acknowledge the fact that some people need to be told they are doing a good job he does not tell his employees they are doing a good job. He could let them know that he feels that they are doing a good job which will make them feel appreciated, will motivate them to continue to do a good job. If he does not feel comfortable saying it face to face he could send an email. He does not set a good example when he does not make his deadlines, he needs to lead by example showing he can make deadlines will set the example. Changing his tone when he speaks...
