Curphy’s Home is a home for Jamaican elderly retired soldiers; it is a place where the United Student Movement Projects Team of Northern Caribbean University looks forward to each semester. However, on Sunday, March 6, 2011, the USM Projects Team visited the Curphy’s home the entire day was spent with them; I was a part of the group. The group was divided, and we participated in different chores.
I was assigned to the kitchen; however I assisted in cleaning the window and wiping the floors of the rooms of theses soldiers. I went on to interact with a group of the elders, it was a moment of fun and laughter as they were so sarcastic and fun to be around.
When it was time for their meals to be shared I went and assist the chefs. I carried the meals to those who couldn’t manage or able to come for their meals. Also some of the members of the team and I fed those who couldn’t feed themselves, I felt really good in myself. After feeding them we clean them up and had a rap- session with them.
We had taken little gifts for them and the staff members; hence we gave each person a gift. The gifts were appreciated by them and the head of the staff told us how grateful they are of our presence there. I loved the moments there, and Jesus in His time on earth did the same and more to those who were in need; therefore we are to give a helping hand to our fellow brothers and sister even if they don’t ask for the help.
