According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Work%E2%80%93life_balance) , Work-life balance is a broad concept including proper prioritizing between "work" (career and ambition) on the one hand and "life" (Health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development) on the other. Related, though broader, terms include "lifestyle balance" and "life balance".

After reading Chapter One of the text book, it is my interpretation that Work-Life balance can be summarized as the goal to create suitable working conditions for an ever increasingly diverse workforce. Diversity along with Work-Life Balance programs are tools for conscious management of diversity, with the aim of developing and retaining a qualified and productive workforce. By supporting open and respectful environments and by offering a range of approaches the business as a whole, as well as individual potential, will be strengthened.

By providing a flexible work arrangement program, Accenture has basically fostered an environment to allow their entire organization to sustain work-life balance. Being with a company that also has this program and allows all employees a very flexible schedule; I can tell you that this is critical to employee devotion, perspective, and commitment to do the best one can. My company is currently allowing me to work from Arizona in order to take care of an ill parent, and to go further, they provided me a blackberry and mobile broadband modem to ensure that I would have all the resources necessary to continue to do my job at the same level I do while at work. As an employee working remotely with a three hour time difference, and knowing that my company did not give me one bit of “a hard time” when I requested this, I feel more devotion to the company and commitment by me to do the best job possible.
