Teamwork in workplace

Speed in development, challenging and competition has increased, teamwork now plays a critical role to achieve goal or complete tasks simply and effectively. Yet, how does teamwork influence the workplace? Even though few authors have considered that the whole is not always greater than the sum of the parts, a large number of researchers discover that team members worked together could make effectual consequence greater than individuals’ efforts. Equally important, most scholars identify that variety factors are related to making successful team. With the development of science and technology, teamwork suffers challenges nowadays, however, with good communication between team members, good leader and clear common goal, these problems can be conquered.

Before discussing how to overcome such problems, the definitions of team and teamwork should be clarified. McCabe (2006) represents that a team is a group of individuals who work together with a common objective. Teamwork is not only focused on working together, but also depends on different elements, such as good organization, diverse backgrounds, creativity among the participants. Fetzer (2005) conveys that a team consists of individuals, who differ in attitudes, motivations, and job functions. From the viewpoint of Bandow (2001), teamwork makes efficiency and effectiveness beyond the accomplishments from individuals. The most effective teamwork is produced when individuals contribute themselves in harmony situation and work towards a common goal.

Viewing an abundant of studies, most scholars demonstrate that teamwork achieves success in chemical project, business, education and other fields. Yet, there are many factors that contribute to the affect of teamwork. Berger (1985) points out that consistent and appropriate leadership will enable the team to achieve its goal.
