Executive Summary

President Juergen Liftwitz of Schulgar Inc. is faced with the current situation of having to decide whether or not to have Acon’s 25th anniversary party. Acon no longer exists and was bought out by Schulgar Inc. Shelly, the communications manager at Schulgar Inc. is responsible for organizing the party. Juergen must decide, the amount of liberty Shelly can have while organizing this party.

Some short term problems include cultural barrier, management style, lack of trust, lack of communication and lack of direction. On the other hand, there are also long term problems, which include communication barriers, lack of respect, and the animosity which may evolve from his decisions. Although facing both long and short term problems, there are many solutions for Shelly which include agreeing with Juergen to be constantly monitored, consulting Juergen on all the major purchases and compromising with Juergen to meet once a week along with a proposal. The optimal solution for Shelly would be to prepare a detailed proposal and take part in meetings with the president once a week.

Statement of the Problem

Schulgar Inc. is a German, international company that has recently expanded its operations by taking over Acon Financial and gaining access to the North American markets. With this take over, Schulgar was not only able to gain a wider range of customers but also make way for Acon and Schulgar automotive products. Currently, what used to be Acon Financial is embarking on their 25th anniversary. Since this is only one aspect of the company, its importance is being questioned as to whether a celebration should take place or not. Shelly Johnston, manager of the communications department is usually put in charge of planning the events. She feels that besides the company’s circumstances, it would be an ideal occasion to recognize the efforts of the employees.
