Checkpoint: Defining Race and Ethnicit

Checkpoint: Defining Race and Ethnicity

The terms race and ethnicity together and or separate I think can be leaded terms in a way. Often national interpretation can be negative due to what I will call the misguidance of many of those before us. If I wanted to directly define race and ethnicity, I would call race something that characterizes the color of a person while ethnicity would focus more directly on the background and cultural ideas a person carries.

Unfortunately these terms I think are important for all the wrong reasons in The United States. I will tell you I am 28 and while I am not blind to the race and ethnicity of a person they in my mind are no different than the person standing next to them. However when it comes to The United States people feel you need to define and divide people by race and ethnicity in order to create what is considered a fair and equal environment for all. Yet if you look at it those that are defining and dividing the groups is just being racist in a politically correct manner. The issues that are caused from the importance of these terms holds true in the fact that we as a nation are so scared of being honest and seeing each person as an equal we then have to lump people into groups instead of adhering to The Declaration of Independence and living by the saying that all men are created are equal.
