There are many different types of religions to choose from and many people choose the religion that best fits their beliefs. Religion is practiced by the person at their own time and privacy. However, there are some companies that practice religion in the workplace and give the employees the choice of participating or keeping to themselves. If everyone could respect each other’s beliefs it would make things much simpler for everyone.

In American everyone has the opportunity to choose their own religion and with so many religions many people agree and disagree with each other’s beliefs. This causes religion to be a “touchy” subject in conversations in society and in the workplace. An employer and or employee can pray over meals or whenever they would like, but they cannot force the employer/employee to follow their religious beliefs. There are religion laws that protect employees from religion in the workplace. Whether the employer or a coworker is pushing religion to another the law will protect your rights.

Work Incident

There have been two incidents at my previous employment that crossed the boundary of religion in the workplace. I first began working for the employer part time; I attended my first potluck as a full time employee six months after I began working at the company. I walked into the break room to heat up the dish I had brought so that everyone could enjoy it while I was finishing up a project. After I heated the dish I walked back to my office to finish the project. About five minutes later one of my coworkers comes into my office and says “We are about to start the potluck, we are waiting for you to pray over the food.” I told her that they could pray without me and I would join them after I finished the project.

Then about a minute later the boss comes into my office and says “Nancy we are waiting for you to pray over the food so that we can start eating”. I told her that I did not want to participate and to just begin without me and I would...
