Wal-Mart Customer Services

Wal-Mart is in the business of selling everything customers need in their everyday lives. This includes the consumer goods listed above as well as food services items. Even still, Wal-Mart pursues multiple strategies. Concerning concentration, Wal-Mart continually finds more consumer goods to sell at its stores, which can take money from competitors. Additionally, when Wal-Mart entered into the food market, it quickly consolidated and held to good, saleable products. Wal-Mart never forays too far into a market and only sells what will make it a profit.

Wal-Mart definitely has the business strategy of Low Cost Leadership. They do nothing to really differentiate themselves from competitors and provide no-frills self-services stores that always provide the lowest prices. Wal-Mart has built enough power with suppliers that they can dictate the prices, go in, and change suppliers manufacturing processes in order to writing out more and more saving for the consumer. While they do try to provide good customer services on top of low prices no one has such a supplier and distribution network like Wal-Mart that allows such low prices. One of Wal-Mart foremost strategies is to provide superior services to customer. Every store has a “greeter” near the entrance to welcome customers, offer them a shopping cart, and direct them toward “Exceed our customer’s expectations. If you do, they’ll come back over and over”.

Of course every business there is downsides due to the powerhouse size of Wal-Mart. Many customers are turned off by having to deal with parking lots that stretch for acres and endless customer’s services and check-out lines at virtually any time of day. In many parts of the country, there have been actual consumer rebellions and backlashes when stores have attempted to open because many small business owners typically go out of business as a result.
