Current Business Research Project Paper
In this paper I will give a synopsis of the article Advanced Practice Nurses Facilitating Clinical Translational Research by Lauren C. Shramp, BSN, RN, Maryann Holtcamp, MS, APN, Shane A. Phillips, PhD, PT, Timothy P. Johnson, PhD, and Julie Hoff, PhD, RN. I will define the business research and its purpose, explain the business problems under investigation, describe the data collection methods used in the research project, and tell what the researchers concluded as a result of their research.
Synopsis
In this article investigators describe the problems of extended wait periods for research subjects. The investigators describe the outcome of adding a CRC-based (clinical research center) advanced practical nurse (APN) to the research facilitation team.
Business Research
The Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) was created in 2006 by the National Center of Research Resources in an effort to improve the health of humans through clinical translational research (Schramp, Holtcamp, Phillips, Johnson, & Hoff, 2010).
Business Purpose
The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between the time taken for standardized study visits requiring the services of a physician colleague or a designated APN for a procedure given in a clinical research center (CRC) paid with CTSA funds (Schramp et al., 2010). The study took place at a university in the Midwestern United States that was the recipient of CTSA funds (Schramp et al., 2010).
Business Problems under Investigation
Study protocols require “advanced physical assessment, clinical procedures, or diagnostic testing” (Schramp et al., 2010, p. 132). During study visits, the research nurses depend upon physician colleagues to aid them in the completion of the procedures. Physician colleagues find it difficult to...
