Organizational Behavior Forces Discussion

Certain forces can affect behavior in an organization. These forces, whether internal or external, tend to influence how employees and management perform on a daily. Through examples such as competition, restructuring, customer demands, and economy I will compare and contrast the organizations of my learning team.

The restructuring aspect of behavior in PepsiCo has seen a merging of PepsiCo and Pepsi Americas. A hiring freeze has been put in place as a result of the changes made by management. Procedural intertwining is happening that makes employees uncomfortable because they are content with doing their job a certain way. PepsiCo has adopted some of Pepsi Americas policies and the employees do not agree with all the changes. Particular moves related to the hiring freeze have given the merchandisers more hours that equates to more pay. Some believe this decision to be a good one because of the job security to the current merchandisers.

One of my other team members has a restructuring situation that has occurred in his organization. Instead of a merger it seems as though the management has begun to separate the different departments of the company. The three owners have decided to govern the company in three divisions and hire managers and supervisors to run the daily operations. The situation has become troublesome for the managers and supervisors in the sense that the owner will not allow the decisions made to take effect. The ownership seems to frequently over rule the managers’ decisions, thus creating distrust in the company. Managers and supervisors are reluctant to show leadership or decision-making skills for fear of the micro managing of the ownership. This shows a lack in human skills by the owners.
