Disney has had a large impact of the way a large amount of companies and organizations now do business. Their ethical values and management strategies have taken almost a life of their own. Disney has had to over come many changes over the years and develop new strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency plans. The influences of legal issues, ethics and corporate social responsibilities have helped to mold the company into what it is today. The establishment of what is known as “Goofy management” is now a highly used method of management in many businesses and hospitals today. The method is simple, attention to detail, walk the talk, customers heard through many ears, and everyone makes a difference. We can take valuable lessons from this Disney model and apply them to everyday management. They create a solid base for all management teams no mater what business their in. Disney’s management functions in planning have led the way for many other businesses. Their Planning strategies can be seen for example; in the training program they have in place at their Animal Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Training is one of the management tools they use to facilitate good animal care. Their successful training program is proactive, not reactive. In other words, they feel that planning is an important part of a successful training program. They routinely review past records of training, looking for patterns. All trainers must fill out a training approval and planning form to communicate how they intend to train an animal in a particular behavior. Disney’s basic planning strategy is kept simple; using what is called S.P.I.D.E.R. Setting goals, Planning, Implementing, Documenting, Evaluating, and Re-adjusting, are their steps towards success.
