Hardware and Software

Hardware: the hardware associated with the Wage and Hour Administration varies. Copiers, supported by the network, allow workers to use it from their desktops. They may use it to print, scan, and copy information used in all information for the office. Then there are the network printers that print from computers only. Printers also connected directly to computers that print both black and white and color documents. Fax machines allow constant receipt of information from agencies and the public. Each employee has a computer and monitor connected directly to the network except for the laptop used by all the investigators in the office. When investigators travel they use the laptop for briefings, tradeshows, or seminars. Used with the lap top is the overhead projector. This is attached to the laptop so a PowerPoint presentation can be shown to a group of people. Hardware also includes a projector that can run a DVD for when the presentation has been recorded. All this hardware allows the employees to accomplish their day-to-day jobs so that the public have prompt and complete service.

Software: the software associated with Wage and Hour is very common and yet also very exclusive.

Starting with common software there is the Microsoft Office. Excel and Word are used every day in all aspect of the operation of the office. Both the 2007 and 2010 versions in use as the department is slowly changing over to the newest version. Windows O/S, both XP and the newest version Windows 7 are also used. Acrobat Reader for reading PDF files and PowerPoint for presentations. Also common software is Microsoft Office Communicator that has just been installed.
