Training and developing employees

When employees have been recruited and selected, the next step is orientation and training. This involves providing them with the information and skill they need to successfully perform their job. Employees today need skills in terms of team-building, decision making, and communication, as well as technological and computer skill. And the competition demand better service so, employees increasingly require customer service training.

After they had recruited, the orientation is so important because it provides new employees with basic background information they need to perform their job such as information about company rules. Then, they will move into training processes which refers to the methods used to give new or present employees the skills they need to perform their job. Training and development process divides into five steps (these are adapted from Mary D. Carolan, “Today’s Training Basic:Some New Golden Rules,” HR Focus (April 1993), p.18.):

1. Needs analysis

- Identify specific job performance skills needed to improve performance and productivity.

- Analyze the audience to ensure that the program will be suited their levels of education, skill, experience, attitudes and personal motivations.

2. Instructional design

- Gather instructional objectives, methods, media, description of and sequence of content, examples, exercises, and activities. Organize them into a curriculum that support adult learning theory and provides a blueprint for program development.

- Make sure all material as well as training methods.

3. Validation

-Introduce and validate the training before a representative audience.

4. Implementation

-It provides training activity.

-When applicable, boost success with a train-the-trainer workshop that focuses on presentation knowledge and skills in addition to training content.
