Dehydration can have many negative effects on the human body which is why water is very important and plays a major role in maintaining health. Water has many functions in the human body and it is very important that one make sure they are getting enough water so the body can properly function.

Many people are not aware that drinking water helps maintain the balance of our bodily fluids. Since our body is made up of almost 60% of water they are sometimes lost through digestion, urine, or temperatures that our body cannot take. Water also helps control calories. Water has no calories so it is very useful and a great substitute for a person who is dieting to lose weight or maintain their weight versus drinking a liquid that is high in calories. Water provides energy in muscles and if cells do not continue their balance of electrolytes and fluids they will shrivel. When muscles don’t have the correct amount of fluids they don’t work as well as they should as they become weakened and fatigue. Did you know our skin contains and with the loss of water our skin appears to be extra dry or have a wrinkled look? Well staying hydrated is a great way to improve this issue. Water also helps our kidneys. Our kidneys clear our body toxins as long as we consume the proper amount of water/fluids. Water keeps our bowels functioning normally. When we don’t get enough fluids our colon pulls water from our stools to maintain hydration resulting in constipation.

Most of our body’s major systems depend on water and therefore, water has many functions in the body. Water helps dissolve minerals and other nutrients and make them obtainable to the body, It carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, regulates body temperatures, lubricates joints, helps prevent constipation, protects body organs and tissues, moisten tissues such as nose, mouth and eyes, and it lessens the burden on the kidneys and liver by flushing out waste material.
