Decisions In Paradise Part I

Hi, I am Nik and I work Shell. We are one of the world’s largest energy companies with our company located at 90 different countries. Our company has a dedication for tackling the future challenges in energy while delivering customer satisfaction every time. We are committed to delivering low-carbon clean energy. As governments, industries, and customers work together to help reach low-carbon energy, Shell is already taking steps with their partners to tackle the challenges that lie ahead. As we look to expand the business, we wanted to set up in a new country where we could use their natural resources while providing employment to the local citizens, and giving back to the community.

The country that is appealing to Shell is a small pacific-island country called Kava. Kava has the natural resources that will help Shell sustain a successful operating environment for years to come. Petroleum and natural gases are two of the main natural resources available in this country. Another factor that favors Shell is the inexpensive, quality labor. With the good comes the bad and Kava has many potential disastrous threats that could greatly affect our company. Some of these disasters are tidal waves, tsunamis, petroleum leaks, volcanic eruptions, HIV/AIDS, tornadoes, earthquakes, and terrorism. Each of these disastrous threats seem quite overwhelming, but if our company was to evaluate each of the 90 other countries that we have companies located, we would find that approximately 90% of these threats are within those countries as well. With risks comes rewards and Kava is no different from the other countries.

If Shell was to set up a company location here in Kava, we would have to ensure that our employees are bi-lingual and have a better understanding of cultural backgrounds. Kava has an ethnic mix of South Pacific tribes, Asian, African, French, Spanish,...
