The world is changing every day, and so is technology. The medical field is finally catching up. I have never seen or been around any of the machines that are connected to one’s home phone for the use of monitoring ones health. The use of electronic medical records is a fantastic improvement over the way records have been kept in the past. I know that with the use of EMRs my medical record can be at the fingertips of any and all doctors who may need to access them.

My last CT Thorax MRI was recorded on a compact disk which was given to me and of course a copy sent to both my pulmonary and primary care doctor, and my copy was put away for safe keeping.

There is now also a way the patients vitals can be monitored via videophone, ones blood pressure, oxygen level and even weight can be taken and recorded this way, while the nurse or doctor is not at the end of the other line the machine can report any abnormalities thus getting the patient the care that may be needed before the next check up.

Broadband is a new pilot program that will if and when all the bugs are worked out allow patients to consult with specialists who are not in the patients’ geographical area. This consultation can put the patients mind at ease and save them money if they do not need to make a trip say 60 + miles.
