EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Banks are the pillars of the financial system. Specially, in Bangladesh, proper banking system is very important, because the capital market is little developed here. National Credit and Commerce Bank Limited has now emerged as a renowned and a reliable financial institution. The bank’s total deposit stood at Tk. 16,069.23 million on 31st December 2004. In that year the bank’s total advance stood at Tk. 15,211.15 million. The deposit advance ratio was 0.95:01 in 2004. The volume of investment on 31st December 2004 was Tk. 4,385.23 million, which was Tk. 2,966.02 million on 31st December 2003. Rate of increase is 48%. During 2004 the bank handled export and import business to the tune of Tk. 5,772.00 crore and 13,274.00 crore respectively. Remittance through MoneyGram has been increased and stood at Tk. 1,945.00 million as on 31st December 2004.

My Internship report is divided into four parts i.e. Introduction Part, Organization part, project part and problem identification and conclusion & suggested Recommendation. The Introduction part contains; origin of the report, objective of the report and limitation of the report whereas the organization part deals with the overview of the bank, while the project part deals with the general banking activities of NCCBL that included, account opening procedures, deposit schemes, remittance section, cash section, accounts section and clearing section as well. Above six subsections are headed under the general banking section.

General banking section is the heart of banking activities because funds are mobilized; cash transactions are made; clearing, remittance and accounting activities are done here. Since bank is confined to provide the services everyday, general banking is also known as ‘retail banking’. I have tried to shown in the project part how daily activities are executed and things are getting done.
