EPA: Do the Right Thing to Protect the Earth

EPA is known as Environmental Protection Agency which is a government agency concerned with the American environment and its impact on human health. The agency was founded in 1970 under Richard Nixon in response to growing environmental concerns among Americans. The EPA is responsible for establishing and enforcing environmental standards under measures like the Clean Air Act, and employs 18,000 people all over the United States to support its aims The EPA estimated that its stricter standards would help prevent up to 12,000 premature deaths, 58,000 cases of aggravated asthma and save up to $100 billion dollars in health costs annually (R. Gardner,2010).

This issue about the EPA is a moral matter because the writers from www.greenpeace.org wants the world and our communities to know what’s going on and how EPA is suppose to be protecting our Clean Air Act and protecting us from all the dangerous and toxic wastes that is going into the ozone layer. Just December 8, 2010 the EPA decided to shelf its common sense smog reduction plan. This is the third time that the EPA has passed on not producing any money toward the ozone protection.

Memphis, TN is on the top 25’s worst pollutant cites in America. The city council here have meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays about what Memphis can do to help protect our air. In the words of Charles O. Conner from the American Lung Association, “a six–month delay means that an estimated 2,000 to 6,000 people will lose their lives because they must breathe air pollution that would have been cleaned up if the EPA had met its most recent deadline of December 31, 2010.”

The basis of judgment I believe is the EPA is founded for the clean air and that’s what their lives and work should revolve around to dedicating their time to make sure that the United States of America air is as clean as possible because it is...
