Vision of Change within the Hospital

The top priority for any hospital anywhere in the world is the safety of each and every patient that enters the hospital. Improving hospital patient safety means an open and stimulating culture is needed. There are hospitals that are filled with employees that are not their to take care of the patients, but their whole purpose for showing up to work is to collect a paycheck or increase profit by any means necessary. In order for people to feel encouraged go to the hospital or visit the doctor’s office, the hospital as a whole needs to show that their top priority is the health and well-being of each patient. Many times CEO’s come and go but the culture stays the same. At Easton Hospital in Lehigh Valley, PA they have had 5 CEO changes since 2001 (Kraus, 2010). The culture of each hospital must begin with leadership and spread throughout the entire hospital facility. Leaders must possess vision, visibility, and ability to drive organizational change toward an environment that fosters both diversity and cultural competence. As challenging economic conditions force management to make difficult decisions, they are needed in order to create the best hospital facilities for each community. Building organizational capacity requires systematic actions including workforce composition, change in administration, and policy advocacy. Healthcare leaders are very influential in shaping the future of the organization through strategic planning and resource allocation to those efforts that enhance services, programs, and processes that support a culture of diversity and equity. In my current hospital facility, change was needed in order to provide patients with the best care in the very competitive healthcare market of Dallas, TX.
