Public relations managers often have to inform stakeholders of changes about corporate policy which may impact operations, revenue, and reputation. One such scenario may take place when changes in retail store hours are being adopted. Public relations managers must inform stakeholders such as store managers, employees, and retail customers through several mediums of business communication such as letters, memos, and email messages. However, forming and delivering a successful message takes several steps.

Steps in Business Communications

The following three examples will illustrate typical business communication mediums. The first will be an internal memo to store employees. The second will be a business letter to management. The third will be an email message to retail customers and the general public. The three messages will inform each recipient about the changes in operation hours for a retail store.

We would like to first thank all of our employees for their strong commitment and loyalty to our company. Your collective effort has helped our company reach the successes we have obtained. However, our tough economic situation, high gas prices, and reduced budgets have forced us to make a few changes to our store operations. These changes aim to help you save time and money while ensuring that our company stores remain open and prosperous.

Effective May 23, 2011, store operation hours will be modified. Stores will be closed on Sundays and weekday store operations will start one hour later and end one hour earlier. Workdays will be changed to 10 hour shifts and a four day work week for Full time employees, including managers. Part-time workers will be allowed to work longer hours on fewer days.
