Food Intake - 1 Day

The way we eat throughout our lives affects our lifestyle. This one day food intake required us to keep a journal of the food we consumed by using the iProfile. Good nutrition is important more than ever; however food is not the only key to a healthy lifestyle. Exercising and being active along with good nutrition have a huge impact on our overall health. IProfile allows us to see how important good nutrition affects our health. It helps us identify where and what type of foods we need to get all the vitamins and nutrients our bodies need.

After reviewing my iProfile journal, it was a big eye opener. My diet does not provide a healthful diet. I spent most of my day on the road running errands. My children start school soon and we ate too much fast food. If I would have planned a little better I could have brought along some healthy snacks and avoided eating foods with little or no nutritional value. Since I did not plan ahead my diet was full of calories from fat and not enough carbohydrates. According to my Pyramid I did not get all the vitamins and nutrients needed due to lack of fruits and milk in my diet. During this day of intake I did not consume the recommended DRI from each of the food groups, vitamins and minerals. According to my intake compared to DRI I was lacking heavily on vitamins and minerals. It also showed that I was off the chart with my intake of sodium.

Reading through my reports on iProfile, the two food groups I did well in was grains and meats and beans. In the same sentence I only consumed 50 percent of the recommended allowances of grains and about 55 percent of meats and beans. Looking at the other groups such as fruits, milk and oils I was lacking severely with 0 percent. My percentage of vegetables was also very low with approximately 35 percent.
