Explain the complications faced by Scout to identify herself.

In Harper Lee’s “To Kill A Mockingbird”, Scout is merely an ordinary six year old girl. She is tomboyish and stays with her father, Atticus Finch, her brother Jem and their black maid, Calpurnia. Even though she is just six years old, living in Maycomb Alabama taught her lessons about life. She encounters complications and she learns that life is not a bed of roses.

The complications Scout faced are many. One of them is the trial of Tom Robinson, a black who was accused of raping a white, Mayella Ewell. To Scout, this event showed her that the world is unfair. Whites are discriminating against the blacks. It doesn’t matter who was wrong or right, a person is judged by his or her skin colour. Tom Robinson was framed of doing something he did not commit however, the whites think he is guilty just because he is a black. This taught Scout that she, as a white, should not discriminate and judge people by their skin colour. Everyone is God’s creation and should be treated equally.

Next, Scout’s relationship with her brother, Jem. Scout feels useless and lonely when Jem ignores her. This is because Jem befriends Dill. Scout needs to realize that her brother is in the process of growing up and he needs to build his own circle of friends. She needs to give him his own space. Jem stopped spending time with Scout may be because he wanted to have friends with the same gender instead of hanging out with his sister all the time. He wanted to grow up like any other ordinary boy.

In chapter 2, Scout has complications with her teacher, Ms. Caroline. Ms. Caroline dislikes Scout because she can read well. She feels challenged and disputed. Scout dislikes Ms. Caroline as well. She hates the way Ms Caroline thinks. Nonetheless, Scout should try to comprehend her or other people outside the family circle.
