Part I: Personal and Professional Ethics

Consider your own personal business ethics in light of the kinds of corruption and ethical malfeasance made possible by the technological age. Describe the ways in which you can either improve your own business ethics or help to impact the ethics of those who surround you.

In my process to improve my own business ethics I will educate myself on knowing what is business ethics. Business ethics comprises the principles and standards that guide behavior in the world of business (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2008). Ethical misconduct has become a major concern in business today and for this reason one should be able to recognize the relationship between legal and ethical decisions (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2008). Studying business ethics will help you begin to identify ethical issues when they arise and recognize the approaches available for resolving them. You may begin to understand how to cope with conflicts between your own personal values and those of the organization in which you work (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2008).

The field of business ethics continues to change as more firms recognize the benefits of improving ethical conduct (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2008). Social responsibility in business refers to an organization’s obligation to maximize its positive impact and minimize its negative impact on society. Only if firms include ethical concerns in their foundational values and incorporate ethics in their business strategy can social responsibility as a value be embedded in daily decision making (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2008).
