And You Said Christmas Was a Fun Holiday!

Holiday: Holy day; a day on which one is exempt from work; a period of relaxation. That’s the definition of holiday from Webster’s Dictionary. If I asked my mom she would say “June Tenth” is her favorite holiday. This day is when slaves got the news of the Emancipation Proclamation. When you think of holiday you may think Christmas with red and green lights; or Thanksgiving and its autumn leaf’s; or maybe even St. Patrick’s Day with funny little leprecons. My definition of a holiday is a weekend full of fun, while being around family in Yazoo, Mississippi! I’m referring to the “hawk Family Reunion,” this is where all the fun happens. From my Uncles playing dominos too my Great-Aunt Vert’s sugar sweet cornbread and my Grandma Thelma’s tasty fried chicken. These are just some of the reasons why the Hawk Family Reunion is my favorite holiday.

This holiday is a three day event; it takes place in Yazoo, Mississippi at my great- great grandpa’s ranch, which is about 150 acres. This event is only for the teenagers and young adults, although this is one of my favorite events I’m never able to pull out a win, I usually get passed up on the small hill. The winner of that event gets to be first in the food line for there age group.

During Friday evening we go to the back of the ranch and shot off fireworks, but not just any fireworks. My Uncle Harvey manages a few firework stands back in Texas. We get to put or hands on
